The FPV kamikaze drone is one of the most effective and widely discussed types of unmanned aerial vehicles in modern conflicts. It combines a simple design, relatively low cost, and exceptionally high strike precision. FPV drones have become a symbol of technological asymmetry, where engineering ingenuity and rapid adaptation play a decisive role.


What Is an FPV Kamikaze Drone?


An FPV kamikaze drone is an unmanned aerial vehicle controlled in real time from a first-person perspective using FPV goggles or a screen. Unlike reconnaissance drones, it is equipped with a warhead and is designed for a single-use attack by directly striking the target.


The operator sees the video feed from the drone’s camera as if seated in its cockpit, allowing precise targeting even in complex environments—between buildings, in forests, or inside trenches.

Main Components of an FPV Drone


A typical FPV kamikaze drone consists of:

  • Frame (usually 7–13 inches)

  • Electric motors and propellers

  • Flight controller

  • FPV camera and video transmitter

  • Battery

  • Control and radio communication system

  • Warhead (shaped charge, fragmentation, or combined)


Thanks to its modular design, most components can be easily replaced or upgraded.

Role in Modern Warfare


Kamikaze drones have fundamentally changed the approach to tactical operations. They enable the destruction of armored vehicles without direct contact, allow for highly precise strikes with minimal collateral damage, enable fast and unexpected attacks, and can be produced and deployed at scale.


In the Russo-Ukrainian war, FPV drones have become one of the key tools for deterring the enemy and compensating for numerical disadvantages. FPV kamikaze drones clearly demonstrate how innovations derived from civilian technologies can change the course of warfare. They represent a new weapon for combat in the 21st century, where decisive factors are not only numbers, but also intelligence, adaptability, and technological superiority.
