Production of FPV drones in Ukraine

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the demand for FPV drones in Ukraine has grown rapidly. This has led to the active development of enterprises engaged in their production, which has become an important factor in strengthening the country's defense capabilities.

The importance of drone production

FPV drones play a critical role on the battlefield, allowing for high-precision strikes on enemy positions from a safe distance. That is why the production of FPV drones is a cost-effective alternative to traditional artillery, especially in conditions of ammunition shortage. In addition, these drones are actively used for reconnaissance, fire control and even combat with enemy drones.

State and dynamics of production

As of December 2023, Ukrainian companies were only able to meet 10–15% of the army's actual needs for FPV drones. Therefore, a large-scale increase in production volumes became a critically important task in 2024.

According to official data, in 2024, Ukraine supplied the military with over 1.3 million drones, including long-range models with a flight range of up to 1,700 km. In 2025, the purchase of about 4.5 million FPV drones is planned, which is more than double the previous year's figures.

What affects the production of FPV drones in Ukraine?

Ukrainian producers face a number of difficulties, including:

• Component shortage – many parts are imported, which complicates production processes.

• Financing – despite government support, enterprises have to raise additional funds.

• Staff shortage – a shortage of qualified engineers forces manufacturers to spend significant resources on training newcomers.

In addition to large enterprises, private companies and enthusiasts make a significant contribution to the production of FPV drones. Small production workshops and individual entrepreneurs who create high-tech drones are actively operating in the country. Among them are former IT specialists, engineers and even students who manufacture FPV drones at home or on small production sites.

Industry development prospects

Ukraine is actively developing the defense industry, in particular the production of drones of various types. It is expected that in the coming years the country will become one of the leaders in the field of tactical and strategic drones. In 2025, it is planned to significantly increase the purchases of domestic FPV drones, which will strengthen the defense capability of the state. At the same time, to implement these ambitious plans, it is necessary to overcome the personnel shortage and continue investing in the technological development of the industry.
